A Week that Flew By
No worries, hopefully the blog will not turn into an every Monday sort of thing. Last week, I was anticipating a slow, leisurely stroll. You see, Thursday and Friday were Fall Break for students at NCSU and I knew campus would be quiet so I would get tons of work done! Well, campus was quiet but almost too quiet. It was eerie! Thursday afternoon my boss told me I should save some gas and “work from home” on Friday. Thanks boss man!
So what was last week? Well, last week was spent doing lots of practicing. Not musically for me, but running sound for the crew to get ready for Sunday worship. Tuesday evening marked the practice with the orchestra and then Wednesday evening was with the rhythm section. The college/singles ministry band (its a blurry line to distinguish the two) headed up worship for the church on Sunday. They did a great job! This was my first time running sound for all the Sunday morning services in the main worship center. Why’s that such a big deal? Well, a 56 channel sound board can seem daunting but is quite fun! Knowing that the slightest touch of a violin microphone could send out a screeching shrill that would pierce the eardrums of the 1100 people in the room is awesome :-p! Just kidding, I’d never do such a thing (I have to think of my ears too ya’ know ;-)). I have to say much thanks for Nathan watching over my shoulders to make sure I could manage a different service than what traditionally happens with the college ministry. That was especially true with the 11:00AM blended service. This was where the college/singles band came together with the orchestra to perform. Luckily, each perform independently of each other but just having that many microphones on stage - wow, is all I can say.
So what else happened (since most of you think I’m a sound nerd now)? Well, I practice another passion of mine, cooking some dinner for some dear friends. We had a blast and I think my meal was a big success. Only one problem cooking for a bunch of girls, they force you to watch Just Married instead of the NC State Football game :(. I did get to drive home and watch the rest of the game however, close win by NCSU over GA. Tech.
I also worked on another passion, photography! I took some photos of my friend Natalee practicing her dance recital piece. She dances here at NC State, thus easy access for me to take photos. I’m happy with several of these and I believe they’ll be used for their promotional flyer materials for the fall recital! They’re posted over in the gallery, so take a look if you like: Natalee Fall Dance Studio
Well, I should return to the grading. The midterm average isn’t too hot for my students and so now I must decide if I was too harsh or if they just didn’t study. Maybe I’ll be nice and offer some sort of makeup . . . maybe ;).
