The Reason for the Season

From time to time I answer the question, “What does TheOneCubed mean?” Some people would put this in an about page but you see, I love the conversation it sparks. TheOneCubed is not me or some online persona that I have established for myself. TheOneCubed rather is the one whom I serve. My God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit - the Holy Trinity - that is whom I serve. You see the trinity is three parts yet one. Thus one cubed, is just one, mathematically speaking.

Why bring this up now? Well, because it is on this day - that will be in a mere few minutes - the day that I celebrate a most wonderful and joyous occasion. At this most joyous time of the year many people forget why we celebrate. It isn’t the presents and the gifts. It isn’t even for family and friends. You see, the real reason behind this time of year is one Christ - a child, born of a virgin. A child who would one day take three nails for you and me.

In the words of the Grinch, “It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes, or bags!”. That’s right Mr. Grinch, because the Christmas spirit that lives in each isn’t about even the most noble of ideas of peace on earth and good will to all men. No Mr. Grinch, the real spirit behind this most joyous of seasons is Christ our Lord. Our only hope, you see, the only reason we can wish good will to men and hope for peace on earth is because of the grace of our Lord Jesus!

So on this day of days when you hopefully spend time with family and enjoy giving gifts of thanks, remember the tiniest of gifts was given on this day that we all might celebrate the gift of the ages.

The Escape Clause: Fired Coaches Visit Santa

Sam sent me a link to this N&O cartoon today that I thought was absolutely hilarious considering the recent upheaval in coach structures around the NCAA.

Where Have I Been?

Well, it has been nearly a month since I last posted on the good ‘ole faithful blog and for my loyal readers (all one of you) I apologize. Since my last ramblings I visited the family for Thanksgiving and my boy Shem went with me. I think he had a good time getting to spend thanksgiving with a bunch of country folks and eating the food from some women who really know how to cook (thanks mom, aunts, and grandma)!!!

Since Friday, I’ve been gearing up at church for our annual Christmas production. Each year, our church puts on a unique program, written by a very talented member of our church. This affords us the opportunity for something to be the first time anyone has seen the material and the presentation. From a shear production/show standpoint this is awesome! It also allows us to custom tailor the gospel presentation to hopefully reach as many individuals as possible.

This year I have the privilege of serving as the lighting director. This of course means a new toy that Jason gets to play with :-D. I’m such a nerd but that’s probably not new to any of my friends. I get to play with the Flying Pig Hog III IPC digital lighting console.

This bad boy allows me to program and control all the theatrical lights that we rented from a local company. This thing has touch screens tons of buttons and faders . . . just makes a nerd smile :-). In addition, two of my lights have full movement control along with color and gobo change. This is where I can use the cool blue glowing ball (seen below) to start wheeling those bad boys around! At one point in the show I actually get to freely move lights around for effect . . . WEEEEEEEE!

Ok, I guess that is enough nerd talk. I should probably get back to writing the final exam for my students.
